WG 3073 Halloween Special Pg 8

Dear Sir

Damned 500 Internal Server Errors

Hi Grovers, Karl here. I’ve noticed lately that the old site here has been getting the ‘500 Internal Server Error’ messages showing when trying to access from your browser. Good ol’ sucky Yahoo! Small Business and their hosting! There is nothing to indicate in the site logs what is causing this, and it is quite frustrating, not only for you my readers, but for me as well. I get them trying to sign on to the WordPress dashboard as well as when I try to submit a reply to a comment. I got no less than 10 500 Internal Server Error’s when trying to post a reply just now! This is crazy! I do apologize for the site error popping up when you are trying to read the latest update and would love to create my own custom error page for it, but alas, I can only create a custom 404 error page. I would love to port this site over to another host, but that’s a headache for another day and another wallet (which is quite empty, save for a few moths I let stay there as they can’t afford to find another wallet to live in. You wouldn’t believe the rent some people charge for moths to live in. That’s racist, I tell ya’!).

So, for now, the only thing you can do if you encounter this wonderfully vague error (as it could be caused by a number of things, but I can’t pinpoint it because I can’t access an error log for it, only a site statistic log and that is as vague as the 500 error message itself) is refresh your browser and hope that it comes back up and not have to hit refresh five to ten times (like me) in order for it to come up. Someday, I shall be able to port the site over to a more reliable host, but for now, I just have to let my blood pressure boil to the point where I have an aneurysm right here on the drawing table, adding unintended color splats to the current strip I am working on.

Halloween Decoration Decision

Every year since 1992, I’ve decorated my front yard to look like a spooky cemetery with faux brick columns and painted PVC pipes as a fence. Over the years, the main wall has changed from painted wood panels to cloth to PVC pipes to match the rest. However, as I was going outside to prepare and locate the holes (I use metal conduit attached through eyebolts to hold the main columns in place), I noticed our current landscaping as overgrown into the areas once reserved for the fence and wall. To put the wall in its old location would mean some of it being obscured by bushes and ferns, so that’s out. Now I just have to sit down and figure out what to do to use the old stuff as I have only 2 weeks until Halloween and not enough time to make new stuff. Jeepers!
