Time travel is and always has been a strange bedfellow. Although Vol sends them into the past from the future, if Vol wasn’t alive 4000 years ago, his race certainly wouldn’t have been in the asterriod field max & crew encountered him in last year. So the question remains, where did Max go and are they still trapped in the past or did they find a way back to their present? That, my friend, will have to remain unanswered for now. And just because Max refuses outright to help Vol now doesn’t necessarily mean he will do so in the future. Is it predestined for them to help sometime in the future? The Starblazer still being on the moon tends to answer that with a yes.
