Willow’s Grove Makes The Webcomic Alliance Pick of the Week
Hey Grovers, Karl here with a bit of news! Willow’s Grove has been featured over on The Webcomic Alliance website as their Pick of the Week! You can read the review here.
As I read through it myself, I found that something seemed oddly familiar about it. The first thing I noticed is that they used some of the first strips run for this go around on the interwebs…the very first one, in fact. I though to myself, “wow, that is nearly 2 years old, wonder if they’ll show some of the newer stuff?” As I continued to read through, I didn’t see any of the new stuff, nothing newer than early 2009…and that is when it hit me, that is where (to steal a quote from myself that Max said in the 2010 Halloween Special) I knew it from…It was the Spotlight over on TGT Webcomics from March 26, 2009. It is a word for word, picture for picture reprint of a 19 month old article.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled for publicity for Willow’s Grove, any publicity is good publicity, but alas, it covers old ground. It doesn’t cover any of the new stuff or storyline, it doesn’t show how I switched to color and a larger format in 2009, and it doesn’t tell how they made it home after cheating death or being brought back to the Nexus by a bounty hunter whose partner is someone from Max’s past. Just a reprint of an old review with old information (I don’t think they have voting for comics over at WebComic Planet these days) & old strips.
I do thank the folks over at WCA (they are some of my old friends from the WCP Collective) for featuring Willow’s Grove as the Pick of the Week. I appreciate the spotlight, but I do wish it would have shown some of my newer accomplishments and storylines so people reading the review aren’t surprised or lost when they come in on the story and find the cast isn’t in space right now.
Doing a bit of digging, I see that I shouldn’t feel slighted by a recycled review. Turns out nearly all the PotW over at WCA are recycled reviews from TGT Webcomics. The exception being Last Res0rt, which is only slightly recycled. It was never featured in a TGT Webcomics Spotlight, rather it’s PotW is recycled from the beginning of their podcast teaser.
Still, all in all, I am happy for the coverage.
Cool, any publicity is good publicity. Grats Karl.
