In most cases, yes, when the next word of a sentence is a vowel, we use “an” instead of “a”. However, in this case, we do not use “an” in place of what would normally be a “the”, as in the Earth. When using the definite article, “the” like The Sun, The Moon, The Earth, it is replaced by an “a” when speaking of more than one of it, in this case, a parallel Earth, instead of saying The Earth. In this particular case, I am using the rule ‘a “unique object”‘. When dealing with the noun “Earth” it can get tricky. Most of the time, an article isn’t used when using Earth/earth. English grammar is truly messed up! 😀
