November, We Hardly Knew Ye

Friday, November 28th, 2008

November is almost at an end. Wow, that went by fast. It seems like it was just Halloween and now we are fast approaching December. November’s been a blast posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with only one week missed as I was setting up ComicPress to display them. I finally worked out a bug, thanks to the people at Lunchbox Funnies Forum as well as WordPress Forum and WordPress Trac, that was not publishing the comics as scheduled. Now it seems that is working so I can get the comics published without me having to do it manually. I am also learning the ins and outs of my digital tablet and I think I will be making the jump to 100% digital…from sketching to inking to lettering. The only drawback to that is I won’t have a lot of original pencils to sell should the demand ever appear. To the current readers I have of the comic, thank you for sticking around. To my new readers, welcome, and to all, tell a friend or two, leave a comment or two, let me know if you like it, love it or hate it. Feedback is a cartoonist meat and potatoes…okay, for some of us it is liver and onions, but we thrive on what our readers think. Otherwise, we are playing to an empty room. So drop me a comment, send me an email, let me know you are out there!

Thanks again for dropping by! We still have 6 months to go to the end of the current story arc. Rest assured, there are two more volumes to follow after that, which should bring us through to 2010! Keep your fingers crossed!

Improvisation

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

When using my digital tablet to ink, I am finding a curious thing to happen. My skin, after prolonged contact, will adhere slightly to the surface causing my hand to stick when trying to ink a long line with a steady stroke. The effect is seen close up, but fortunately, at the reduction I use, it isn’t that noticeable…but I know it is there. Now I have seen those gloves animators use when inking cells. They are white, cotton and have the fingers chopped off. Other than finding something on the interwebs and waiting for them to arrive, I decided to improvise. In my sock drawer, I have quite a few white, cotton socks I no longer wear due to various holes being worn in and I never got around to mending. I grabbed one, cut some holes for fingers and bingo-bango! I have something that I can use to help reduce the heel of my hand sticking to the tablet. With practice, I bet I can reduce those wiggly lines that bug the living breath out of me! I’ll take a pic of this new “glove” and post it here sometime soon.

That Ain’t Right!

I thought this was something only dogs did…apparently, I was mistaken. Tiger, our stray tomcat we took in two months ago decided to come up and sit on my lap for some attention. He stayed for a bit and was purring away, nice and content. He started to groom himself and then suddenly sat up and scooted down my shirt towards my pants. Now when I say scooted, I am talking about how dogs sit on the carpet, and while pulling themselves forward with their front paws, scoot their bottoms across your carpet as if to scratch some unreachable itch. Well, this is exactly what Tiger did on my shirt, leaving the inevitable skid mark. Not the affectionate gift I was looking for. Dumb cat!
